Halle Berry Clarifies Calling Cardi B ‘The Queen Of Hip Hop’

She said what she said.

Halle Berry received smoke from Nicki Minaj fans this past weekend when she called Cardi B the ‘Queen of hip hop’ during the premiere of her new film, Bruised.

Her remarks, albeit in good spirits started a social war between both fans of Nicki Minaj and Cardi B on who the true queen of hip hop really is.

Cardi caught wind of the debate and used the moment to plug her and Halle’s new curated soundtrack.

“I know how some of you girls like to tussle over this [type of] childish s###… but [not too much] on Halle Berry. Anyway, her movie #BRUISED dropping THAT SHE DIRECTED HERSELF on Netflix on November 24th. The FIRST female rap movie soundtrack!! We produced together out this FRIDAY!,” tweeted Cardi B on November 14.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night, the Oscar winning actress addressed the Twitter backlash and stood by her statement

“You know, I do,” she said when asked if she stands by her comments. She goes on to add “But here’s the thing, there’s room for more than one queen, people. Nicki is a queen in her own right. H.E.R. is a queen. All these ladies to me are queens. There can always be more than one.”

She continued, “Queen is a term that we use to describe great,” she said. “You know, we’re all a queen. All we do all day is say, ‘Hey queen!’ ‘What’s up, queen?’ ‘Yeah, queen!’ ‘What’s happening, queen?’. … Queen, queen, queen. We’re all queens.”

The soundtrackto Halle Berry’s new Netflix film, Bruised arrives this Friday. Co-produced by Halle and Cardi, the soundtrack features an all-female rap lineup with names such as H.E.R, Rapsody, City Girls, Young M.A and more.
