Creative Weekly: Pusha T, Big Sean & NBA YoungBoy

Creative Weekly is a magazine-styled segment that highlights some of the week’s biggest hip hop stories you may have missed.

Creative Weekly for this week features stories from Pusha T, Big Sean and NBA YoungBoy.

Pusha T reveals he’s back in the studio, says next album will top DAYTONA, Big Sean misses the G.O.O.D ol’ days and NBA YoungBoy is set to be released on house arrest after 7 months in prison. Full details below.

Pusha T Says His New Album Will Be Better Than Daytona

Pusha T hasn’t released an album since 2018’s critically acclaimed Daytona. The Virginia Beach rapper believes the delay will be worth it because his new album, which he says is currently in the mixing stage will be even better than Daytona.

“I think I’ve topped Daytona for sure,” he told Billboard. “One-thousand percent.”

He also noted Pharrell pushed back on some of the directions he wanted to go with the album, adding, ““[Pharrell] said ‘Nah man, you’re always gonna say the greatest things but you want to be different? We’ve got to make compositions.’”

Big Sean Misses G.O.O.D Music Brotherhood

Big Sean is back in the news this week. The Detroit-raised rap star gained a lot of attention for his nearly 9-minute freestyle performance on the L.A. Leakers show.

Feeling the love, Sean Don took to Twitter on Thursday (October 21) to reveal that Nas gave him props for the blistering freestyle.

“Nas just txt me saying ‘you murdered these freestyles thanks for pushing us all’ that’s crazy AF to me when I really thought about Nas txt’n me that,” he wrote. “I’m at the crib right now in Detroit n I’m just feeling grateful I actually am doing what I said I would. Shit feel like a dream.”

He also reminisced about his association with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music label.

“I also really miss the brotherhood I [used] to have with G.O.O.D. Music, I don’t know what happened. Guess those [were] the GOOD ol’ days. It’s all love, but we use to really be clique’d up,” tweeted Big Sean.

The 33-year old was a key member of G.O.O.D Music, an imprint he signed with in 2007 after impressing Kanye West with his freestyling skills.

Big Sean released his new Hit-Boy produced single “What A Life” on Friday (October 22). According to the Detroit native, fans should expect more music from him soon.

“Been locked in and have a lot planned for anybody who supporting n ride for me,” he tweeted. “Ain’t fans, y’all fam at this point! New music, merch, bars, ideas, energy, etc, basically just all sides of me I wanna share! If u got love for me I need to see you step up for me, and show up 4 me!”

NBA YoungBoy Released From Jail

After spending nearly seven months in jail, YoungBoy Never Broke Again is now a free man. The rapper was released on Friday (Oct. 22) after a Louisiana judge granted him bond. The federal inmate locator database confirms that Kentrell DeSean Gaulden is no longer in custody.

The rapper’s legal team, Drew Findling and Andre Belanger confirmed to TMZ that bail has officially been set. As part of the conditions of his release, YoungBoy must remain under house arrest in Utah.

YoungBoy was busted in Los Angeles back in March on a federal warrant, with the FBI taking him into custody using a K-9 unit after he allegedly attempted to evade a traffic stop.

After the L.A. arrest, YoungBoy was transported to Louisiana and booked into a jail in St. Martin Parish, where he’s remained behind bars.
