Young Dolph might live a life of luxury, but he’ll never forget where he comes from. Delivering a diary of a trap lord turned CEO, Dolph shares the video for “Talking To My Scale.”
Produced by Memphis mainstay DJ Squeeky, who captivates with a low-note piano riff, whirring synths, and insistent 808s, “Talking To My Scale” is a quintessential Tennessee trap anthem, packed with the witty turns of phrase and bits of hustler wisdom for which Dolph is known: “If I sacrificed myself, will I go to hell?/In my trap house countin’ guala, talkin’ to my scale/My jewelry box havin’ more water than Wisconsin Dells/Trap n****, I count money better than I spell.”
Directed by Maxx Renn, the video for “Talking To My Scale” finds Dolph exulting in his status as the head honcho of the Paper Route iLLUMINATi. The Paper Route EMPIRE CEO talks his smack from an active volcano and underwater with sharks swimming past. Later on, Dolph chops it up with the only person he could ever consider a peer: himself.
“Talking To My Scale” is the opening track on PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi, Paper Route EMPIRE’s fir st-ever compilation mixtape.
