Jay-Z Applies For Sports Betting License In New York

Jay-Z has reportedly submitted applications to the New York City Gaming Commission requesting approval for an online sports betting license.

According to TMZ, The hip hop juggernaut has partnered with Michael Rubin – the executive chairman of Fanatics and Kambi (a company that makes software used for online sports gambling) to create Fanatics Sportsbook.

The veteran rapper briefly held gaming licenses in Nevada and New Jersey when his 40/40 Clubs were open in Vegas and Atlantic City, but he closed those down many years ago.

Jay and Rubin’s bid for approval faces stiff competition from companies like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook and WynnBET, but it’s s believed Hov’s status as a prominent public figure and the only black applicant could be the ace card that gives Fanatics an edge over its competitors. TMZ reports NY state will approve at least 2 of the 6 applicants.

If approved Sports Fanatics will be headquartered in NYC, and will employ people from different race and genders. The process is likely to take a few months, but it’s possible that Fanatics Sportsbook would be one of the biggest in NYC.

The Gaming Commission has until December to make the decision.
