DaBaby Apologizes To Jojo Siwa Following Social Media Backlash

DaBaby disses Jojo Siwa

Following a sea of social media backlash and memes (scroll down),  DaBaby finally addresses the misunderstanding and clarifies his clever usage of “Siwa” on the “Beatbox” freestyle, not that he needed to.

Rappers shouldn’t have to explain their lyrics.

“@itsjojosiwa my 3 year old princess is your number 1 fan,” he tweeted on Sunday afternoon (February 21). “I bought her every product you have out. She think she you. Don’t let em trick you into thinking I’d ever have a problem with you. My word play just went over their heads. All love on my end shawty, Keep shining!”

Twitter Roasts DaBaby For Dissing Jojo Siwa In New ‘Beatbox’ Freestyle

DaBaby’s new freestyle has been hot on the blogs but mostly for the wrong reasons. On the new freestyle released Feb. 19 over SpotemGottem's TikTok hit “Beatbox,” the North Carolina rapper seemingly dissed 17-year old Nickelodeon star Jojo Siwa. Using Siwa as a homophone, Baby raps: “Turn me up, ni**as gon’ see why / Ni**a, you a bitch, JoJo Siwa.”

Not long after the freestyle went live, JoJo’s name started trending and fans were left unimpressed and bemused as to why a 29-year old would choose to diss a teenager. One twitter user commented: “Why did DaBaby include that Jojo Siwa line in his freestyle? Regardless of rhyme a 29 year old dissing a 17 year old doesn’t sit right with me.”

Another user wrote: “So people really trying to beef with JoJo Siwa now… like she is the sweetest. Hip Hop is trashy lowkey.”

Check out some more Twitter reactions to DaBaby’s lyric below.

As most rap heads know, DaBaby wasn’t dissing Jojo. As Genius puts it, “DaBaby compares the tendencies of his opposition to JoJo. In response, he promises to make them remember not to mess with him. Here, “Siwa” functions as a homophone with “see why.”

On the freestyle Baby also references Stevie Wonder and T.I.  Listen to “Beatbox” freestyle below.
