After announcing the single on social media earlier this week, Drake drops his new song “Tootsie Slide.” On the dance-craze track produced by OZ, Drake pays homage to the late king of pop, Michael Jackson.
“Don’t you wanna dance with me? / I could dance like Michael Jackson / I could give you thug passion / It’s a ‘Thriller’ in the trap where we from.”
The song named after social media influencer Tootsie, is set to become the next big sensation on Tik Tok, as fans have already learned moves to the dance challenge.
According to Toosie, it was the 32-year old who had reached out to collaborate. “Drake hit me up and was like, ‘Yo, I need your help,'” he told Rolling Stone. “So he sends the record. It was just an idea at the time. It was just the hook and a verse. I came up with this dance. [Drake said,] ‘What you think? You think you can come up with a dance for this song that I made?’ So I sit down, listen to it. Luckily, I’m at Ayo and Teo’s house with Hii Key and all of us. We all chilling. We came up with it pretty fast. We just all pieced it together. We all contributed.”
He adds, “The coronavirus messed up the dropping schedule. He was gon’ have us in the music video and junk, but the coronavirus messed it up. So it took us two extra weeks to drop the video we made for it.”
You can stream “Toosie Slide” now on all major platforms, and watch the video up top.
