Vic Mensa Responds To XXXTentacion Controversy On New Song "Empathy"

Vic Mensa responds to the controversy surrounding his BET Cypher with a new song titled "Empathy."  On the song the Chicago MC raps about his abusive past, hurting his girlfriend and being a magnet for bad energies.

"As a man, we don’t understand the damages we’ve sown / Just by stringing her along / And everybody heard the song / I fucked up / Admit that I fucked up / But I ain’t do that though," he raps. "So I wanna judge but I sound like an asshole / Holdin’ my nuts up / We love to point the finger at everybody but us.”
During his cypher at the BET Hip Hop awards which aired Tuesday night (Oct. 15), the Roc Nation artist referenced XXXTentacion's abuse allegations. “Only time you bear arms is in a wifebeater, loser / Your favorite rapper’s a domestic abuser,” rapped Mensa. “I don’t respect niggas posthumously / Homicide ain’t new to me.”

Most people found it inappropriate - even more so because X's grieving mother was in the audience. Prior to releasing Empathy, Vic defended his comments saying he would not stop speaking about violence in hip hop.

"I vehemently reject the trend in hip-hop of championing abusers and I will not hold my tongue about it,” he said. “I don’t give a fuck about getting attention. I care about bringing awareness and holding people accountable for their actions.”
