Nicki Minaj Says She’s the New Harriet Tubman

Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X … and then there’s Nicki Minaj. You read that right, the Barbie Dreams artist proclaimed herself the latest freedom fighter, likening herself/situation to that of human rights icon Harriet Tubman.
The 35-year old, who for the most part stays mute about black people’s movements and struggles except when it is of benefit to her or she’s on the wrong end of the stick, on Monday night linked her Spotify situation to that of Harriet Tubman’s, Who by the way led scores of slaves to freedom in the 19th century despite having a bounty on her head.
All the QUEENS I remember, SHOOK SHIT UP!!!!!!!! Queen of the week may go to HARRIET TUBMAN!!!!!! Had she just sat there & ate her rice, you niggaz history would’ve been a lot less triumphant. 🦄

While she did not outrightly compare herself to the abolitionist legend on the above tweet. TMZ has her on camera boldly saying “I’m the new Harriet Tubman.”
While on her way to the VMA’s on Monday night (Aug. 21). TMZ photogs asked her about her Twittershake up that resulted to Tubman’s name being a trending topic on the social media site.
“I am the new Harriet Tubman,” she responded. “I’m Tubman, leave me alone.”
Sounds harmless but her frivolous claims didn’t go down well with some members of the Twitter public, who weren’t afraid to call her out on her bullshit.
Checkout some of the best reactions below.

I’m not sure if there’s a person in the US alive today who can respectfully compare themself to “Harriet Tubman”

Comparing your album sales to Harriet Tubman’s fight for freedom is the most stupid commentary on slavery in 2018 and that includes Kanye saying slavery was a choice. https://t.co/r4EA8IGR2b

Some slave: *hands Harriet some rice*
Harriet tubman: “no. I’s can’t eat this rice. I’s got to free the slaves so nicki minaj can have a number one album.”

Nicki didn’t back down from her original tweet, but she added more context to it in another several hours later. “Y’all I had no idea Harriet Tubman was now trending. I said what I said,” she tweeted.
Y’all I had no idea Harriet Tubman was now trending. I said what I said. 😂😂😂😂😂 #QueenRadio will honor her tmrw. She said she could’ve rescued more slaves had they known they were slaves. I fought for streaming services to count toward billboard when alotta niggz stayed quiet
