Jay-Z Talks Politics, Infidelity, Racism & #MeToo On 'The Van Jones Show'

Van Jones premiered his new show on CNN, the Van Jones Show on Saturday night (Jan 27) with hip-hop mogul, Jay-Z serving as the first guest. The two had an healthy conversation that ranged from politics, infidelity, Meek's prison sentencing, Colin Kaepernick taking a knee, the #MeToo movement which he said "had to happen for the world to purge itself."

At some point, he even spoke on Trump's derogatory "Shithole" comments.

"Everyone feels anger, but after the anger it's really hurtful because he's looking down on a whole population of people and he's so misinformed because these places have beautiful people,” he said.

The discussion also touched on racism in America. Jay said Trump's comments expose a larger problem of racism in the country.

"There was a moment when Donald Sterling had been exposed as this racist on a private phone conversation that he was having and they took his team from him, and it's like, OK, that's one way to do it. But another way would have been, let him have his team and then let's talk about it together. ... Maybe some penalties. Because once you do that, all the other closet racists just run back in the hole. You haven't fixed anything. What you've done was spray perfume on a trash can."

"You don't take the trash out," he continued. "You keep spraying whatever over it to make it acceptable and then, you know, as those things grow, then you create a superbug. And then now we have Donald Trump, the superbug."

The interview was largely inspired by his latest album 4:44. The album earned him eight Grammy nominations including ones for Album, Record and song of the year.

The 60th Grammy Awards takes places on Sunday night (Jan. 28) or early Monday morning. Depending on which part of the divide you're on.
