Kendrick Lamar Remembers The First Phone Call He Got From Dr. Dre

Back in 2010 Dr. Dre introduced the world to his new protegé - A young rapper from Compton who had already managed to generate a decent enough buzz for himself in his hometown. The co-sign may or may not have been responsible for what happened next but the part it played in sky rocketing Kendrick Lamar's rap career can not be downplayed.

In a rare interview with Howard Stern on SirusXM, Kendrick recalled his first ever phone call with the Dr. Dre. K. Dot remembers being on tour with Tech N9gne when the call came in at a Chilli's restaurant they were dining at.

"Me and my boy Ali, we was eating at Chili's. I'll never forget it," he recalls. "We was eating at Chili's and we got a call like, 'Yo, Dr. Dre likes your music.' And we were like, 'Yo, who the fuck is this on the phone?' [laughs]. We hung up...We might have blown it. Another call came in from somebody else. Then another call came in from somebody else like, 'Yo, they trying to reach out and figure out who you with.'"

The rapper also talked about how fast food saved his life, working with Taylor Swift and almost collaborating with Prince on "Complexion (A Zulu Love)" from To Pimp A Butterfly.
