Cassper Nyovest dropped his third studio album in 4 years on Friday (May 5th). The album continues to receive rave reviews from blogs, fans & critics, with some going as far as calling it his best work yet.
"Thuto" shows a more calmer and personal side to Cassper -- away from his usual "hey look at me, I'm rich" raps. In fact, Tito Mboweni is the only track on the LP that doesn't seem to fit in. The 16 track project features guest appearances by Goapele, Nadia Nakai, Tshego, Tsepo Tshola and Black Thought.
"Destiny" and "Superman" are a few of the standouts worth checking out. One other track that standouts for obvious reasons is the Black Thought assisted Ng'Yekeleni.
Cass uses the track to stunt on his doubters;
"Smack 'em just to whip cop cars/
Same spot where they shot Pac," he raps.
"Broke as hell but where I come from
I'm like a king there, I'm in the posh squad
I'm in a Bentley, I'm in a Aston."
The SA rapper tries his hardest to keep up but, Thought is on a whole-nother level. The Roots member swoops in with lines about his past and a possible trip to Africa, "They say the window to my soul shattered/ Now I'm feeling stoned as a gallbladder," He continues. "My demon is me having going after/I'm chafting the net and the dog catcher/ I'm headed to Africa, call Cassper."
Listen to "Ng'yekeleni" below and cop Thuto on ITunes.
Cassper's portfolio continues to grow. So far he has collaborated on tracks with Talib Kweli, The Game, Cassey Veggies and now Black Thought. Not bad.
